Archaeology is about knowledge, not treasure
The Council for British Archaeology has been working in collaboration with ITV, the British Museum and the Portable Antiquities Scheme on ITV1’s new series Britain’s Secret Treasures to ensure that everyone fully understands all the issues involved in the search for “treasure” and can seek expert advice and guidance. “If you are thinking of rushing out to buy a metal detector to search an area near you and seek out your very own ‘treasure’, CBA Director Mike Heyworth comments, “there are reasons why you should think again or ask the experts.”

The ITV1 series on “Britain’s Secret Treasures” starts this evening at 8pm and runs throughout the week, building up to the final show on Sunday evening which reveals the top ten finds discovered by amateurs reported over the last 20 years.

Homeless Heritage Survey at Monkbar, York
Between 4th and 6th July volunteers will be undertaking an archaeological survey at a rough sleeper site, which forms part of a project examining the material remains of homeless life in York. The project is run with residents from the Arclight Homeless Shelter, and is free for all.
