About the BAA

Bringing together architecture, art and archaeology since 1843.

The British Archaeological Association was founded in 1843 for the study of archaeology, art, and architecture, and to promote the preservation of historic monuments and antiquities. It exists to enhance understanding of the material culture of Europe and the Mediterranean. It encourages research, organises conferences and publishes new work on the history of architecture and art of Roman to post-medieval date, with a particular interest in the art, architecture and archaeology of the Middle Ages, especially in Britain. Learn more
