Welcome to the East Regional Group of the Council for British Archaeology.
Covering the counties of Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk
we are an educational charity and, as as part of the CBA’s network of regional groups,
we aim to involve people in archaeology and to promote the care and appreciation
of the historic environment for the benefit of present and future generations. This
is funded by our members’ subscriptions and is fulfilled at a local level by:
• publishing an annual Newsletter;
• encouraging participation in events and training opportunities;
• liaising with other archaeological groups and societies in the region;
• holding regular committee meetings throughout the year; and
• holding an annual AGM.
It is hoped that this website will become a source of information on:
• the activities of the group;
• how and where to get involved in archaeology in your region; and
• provide a resource for archaeology in the region.
If you would like to join our mailing list to receive updates and the Newsletter
please email Andrew Francis
We are in the process of redesigning the website to reflect the increase in momentum
as a result of new members joining the committee. A new website at: http://cbaeast.wordpress.com
is being developed and this one will gradually become redundant. Please persevere
with the new website and if you have any comments on it they can be emailed at: CBAEast@archaeologyuk.org
Call for new committee members
Would you like to help out on the CBA East committee?
We meet 3 – 4 times a year and are keen to have committee members representing all
areas of our region which covers Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and
Suffolk. We would be particularly interested to hear from anyone who would be interested
in taking on the post of Secretary. To register your interest email firstname.lastname@example.org
or write to Alison Tinniswood, Historic Environment Unit, Postal Point 108, County
Hall, Hertford, SG13 8DN.
We consider applications for small grants (up to £500) for a wide range of archaeological
projects and we are particularly interested in supporting projects that have an
educational objective (see the Jigsaw Project overleaf), and in helping groups and
individuals to publish their work.
New committee members
We would like to welcome two new members to the committee, Sarah Poppy and Jonathan
House, both of whom have a wealth of experience from working in the archaeological
sector for many years. Both Sarah and Jonathan come fresh with ideas of making the
group more accessible and inclusive as well as putting on diverse and stimulating
conferences. Any thoughts or suggestions can be made by contacting either Sarah
New facebook page
We have finally joined the social media revolution by creating a facebook group page
imaginatively called ‘CBA East’. It is open to all so anyone can add comments, reviews
and generally keep up-to-date with what is happening with the CBA East group. We
are hoping that the facebook page and website will run con-currently with.
COMING SOON: Members Newsletter
We are planning to revive the members newsletter so if you have any interesting news
that you would like to share with other members then please email email@example.com
