Archaeology for all
Welcome to the CBA-EM — the Council for British Archaeology local group for the East Midlands of
England. We cover five counties — Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and
Rutland. We are an educational charity working to involve people in archaeology and to promote
the appreciation and care of the historic environment for the benefit of the present and future
generations.
Our aim with this site is to provide information, advice and resources to those wishing to know
more about the archaeology of the East Midlands or to become involved in practical ways with
fieldwork, research or conservation. Let us know what you would like to find here!
We have recently published guidelines for volunteer groups wishing to undertake programmes of fieldwork. They are
based on Peter Allen’s experience of running such projects for the Bingham Heritage Trails Association and can be
accessed here.
