Since her first excavation at Wroxteter in 1964, Shiela has taken part in many excavations in the City of London and throughout the South East, including a Roman villa near Tonbridge and the crypt at St Nicholas’ Church in Sevenoaks. A longtime member of the Kent Archaeological Society (KAS), she was elected onto the council in 1991 and became membership secretary in 2001. She is chair of the Wealden Iron Research Group. Shiela is a founder member of CBA South East and joined the CBA London committee as the KAS representative. She became a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA) in 2005.
