Welcome
Welcome
to the North West Regional Group of the Council for British Archaeology.
We
cover the counties of Cheshire and Lancashire, plus Greater Manchester
and
Merseyside. The archaeology of this region is as diverse as its
landscape, from
the often-elusive remains of the Iron Age to iconic monuments of the
Industrial
Revolution.
We are an
independent charity funded by our members' subscriptions.
Our committee is elected at the AGM and meets five times a year.
We:
- help advance the study and care of the historic environment of
Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside
- campaign
for your heritage
- improve public knowledge of the region's past
- bring together and support individuals, local amateur groups,
professional bodies, academics and partners
- encourage and publicise research and
opportunities for
education and participation
We fulfil these
roles through our six-monthly
meetings, newsletters, website and journal, as well as working behind
the
scenes to protect and enhance the historic environment.
Our members:
- help us
develop our work in education, conservation and
- raise the profile of
archaeology in the minds of decision-makers
If you care for the
future of the
past, and want to learn more about archaeology outside your own area,
the
Council for British Archaeology is the organisation for you.
