Renewable Energy: Nuclear Energy

Cottam, Lincs

The DECC consultation on the draft National Policy Statements for energy infrastructure includes the draft National Policy Statement for nuclear power generation (EN-6) and closes on 22 February 2010.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced that eleven sites are being considered for potential new nuclear power stations. The public is invited to comment on these proposed sites within the next month, between 15 April and 14 May 2009. Information on the process for choosing sites, opportunities to comment and the role of Government and energy companies can be found on the Choosing sites for new nuclear power stations website.

BERR published Towards carbon capture and storage: a consultation document on 2 July 2008. This consultation ‘seeks views on several aspects of the regulation of carbon capture and storage… invites views on the principle of ‘carbon capture readiness’ for combustion plants’. The consultation runs until 22 September 2008.

Following the consultation on the future of nuclear power (23 May to 10 October 2007), BERR has published in January 2008:

Carbon dioxide capture and storage is the subject of an Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change Working Group III special report.

Three Naked Scientists interviews focus on Carbon capture and storage, Renewable energy, and the Sizewell B nuclear power plant.
