HEIRNET User Survey 2005 Report and analysis undertaken by ADS on behalf of HEIRNET By J. Brewer and W.G. Kilbride 2006

4.3 Resources

Job listings in archaeology and the historic environment are in high demand, and one of the most popular reasons for visiting HEIRs, especially amongst professionals in the area, yet they do not feature highly, if at all, amongst the online resources chosen to participate in this survey.

Downloads ranked the highest in terms of usefulness amongst respondents, but this is a broad category and few HEIRs offer extensive downloadable resources.

Overall, large area searches and indexes were considered less useful than smaller, more specific ones. Definitions, visitor information, graphics, and tours (show and explain resources) ranked the lowest amongst respondents, except amongst the 6th Form College or High School students.

Artifacts and family history were not cited as popular reasons to visit HEIRs by our respondents; however 'other' was a popular reason amongst Personal Researchers, 'Others' and, surprisingly, Professional Archaeologists and Undergraduate Students.
