MSRG Committee and Officers, 2012Dr Letty ten Harkel (Committee, 2012 - )
Dr ten Harkel's research is primarily concerned with the issue of identity, which she has approached from literary, historical and archaeological perspectives. She focuses mainly on the southern North Sea region during the period of Scandinavian raids and settlement, although her current involvement with the 'Landscape and Identities' project is significant widening of her temporal boundaries. Key themes of her research include: material culture and identity; settlement development and the rise of urban identities; landscape archaeology; portrayal and self-portrayal in historical/literary sources; and the relationship between archaeology, history and literature. Dr ten Harkel is currently a researcher on the ERC-funded project 'Landscape and Identities: the case of the English landscape 1500 BC - AD 1086'. In addition, she is a Research Member of the Common Room of Kellogg College, Oxford. |
