        Dr Naylor

Dr John Naylor is the Portable Antiquities Scheme's National Finds Advisor for Medieval and Post-Medieval Coinage. His research interests are based around the archaeology of north-western Europe, especially relating early medieval trade, urban - rural interactions and change, and the nature of early coin-use. Previous research has included work on the 'Viking and Anglo-Saxon Landscape and Economy Project' with Prof Julian D Richards (University of York) which explored the interpretation of landscapes through metal-detected finds. His current research is focused on trade and economy in 8th-century northern Europe, and he is continuing methodological work on the integration of metal-detected assemblages into archaeological research.
