Join us for our next This Is Archaeology Lecture with Nina O'Hare..
This talk will delve into the award winning* Roots in Time project, what went on and how it combined heritage, community and sustainability. Along the way, we’ll dip into the site’s fascinating Iron Age and Roman archaeology too, as it is seemingly a Roman farmstead with intriguing stories to tell of trade, travellers and trinkets.
Tree planting is becoming increasingly common as part of efforts to tackle climate change. Roots can affect buried archaeology, but this can also be a valuable opportunity. Geophysical survey at a planned tree planting site in Worcestershire revealed extensive archaeology. This was the catalyst for a community archaeology and arts project that has shaped the new nature reserve and connected local people to both heritage and climate action.
*Roots in Time won the 2023 Archaeology Achievement Awards for Archaeology & Sustainability and Outstanding Achievement.
