Festival Theme - Archaeology and Nature
The Festival took place across the UK from Saturday 18th July to Sunday 2nd August, exploring the theme “Archaeology and Nature” with over 500 events across the UK.
Archaeology and nature are interconnected revealing how humans have lived with, shaped, and been shaped by the environment around them. By exploring the past using the climate, geology, animals, plants, landscapes and the effect of nature on archaeological sites and buildings today, we can understand how places and communities evolve and develop.

Event Organisers Information and How to Submit your Event
Event listings and resource submissions for the 2026 Festival of Archaeology is now open. If you would like to find out more about future Festival activities or are interested in organising an event in 2026 please sign up for our newsletters via the link below and check out the event organisers area where you'll find lots of useful information on developing and delivering your activities.

Beyond the Festival of Archaeology
The Festival of Archaeology takes place over 16 days in July each year but beyond that, there are plenty of other ways to discover archaeology and heritage across the UK throughout the year.
CBA Resources
Festival of Archaeology Resources
Alongside the live events that take place in July we have an incredible range of resources that are avaiable for you to access at any time thoughout the year. Explore the Resources area of our website to find everything from talks and craft activities to self-guided walks.
Young Archaeologists' Club
The CBA coordinated Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) is the only UK-wide club where 8–16 year olds can participate in real archaeology and discover why it matters. Visit the YAC website to find out about your nearest branch or explore the 'Things to do' section for a whole host of free activities to do at home.
Other festivals and events
Heritage Open Days
Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture. Running for ten days every September, the festival offers free access to thousands of heritage events and activities.
European Archaeology Days
European Archaeology Days take in June each year with over 30 countries across Europe participating. Events include hands on activities and museum and site tours.
