Here you will find the answers to some of the questions we are often asked, covering who we are, what we do, and how you can get involved.

Is the Council For British Archaeology a charity?  

Yes, the CBA is a charity. As such, we rely on support from our members and funders in order to carry out our work in increasing public understanding and participation in archaeology. We also make applications to a range of grant schemes (such as government and lottery schemes), in order to support our project work. What publications do you sell?  

The CBA has been dedicated to publishing the best in British archaeology for more than 60 years and we continue to make archaeological research widely available.

How do I receive/buy your magazine? 

British Archaeology Magazine is available from high street newsagents, via a print or digital subscription, and is one of the benefits of CBA membership. You can subscribe and become a member here.

How do I join the CBA?

How do I identify a find?

If you would like to identify an archaeological find please go to the Portable Antiquities Scheme website and get in touch with your local finds officer. 

Where can I find information about archaeology sites?

Please see the Archaeology Data Service (ADS) website to find out more about archaeological sites.

Where do I find more information about bones and fossils?

If you are interested in bones and fossils please visit the Natural History Museum website. 

How do I update the address on my CBA membership/subscription?

Can the CBA help me prevent the loss or unsuitable development of built heritage in my area?

How do I receive/buy your magazine?

If you have a membership with us, you will get the British Archaeology magazine as part of subscription. If you are not a member you can subscribe or you will be able to find the magazine at WHsmith and other newsagents.

I'm a member, how do I login for the first time?

As an existing member, you will need to change your password upon logging in for the first time. To do this, visit the members homepage, and select the 'forgotten password' link. You will then be asked to change your password. Once you have completed this, you will have full access to the member homepage.
