Is the Council For British Archaeology a charity?

Yes, the CBA is a charity. As such, we rely on support from our members and funders in order to carry out our work in increasing public understanding and participation in archaeology. We also make applications to a range of grant schemes (such as government and lottery schemes), in order to support our project work. How do I join the CBA?

Do you have a magazine? How do I read it?

British Archaeology Magazine is available from high street newsagents, via a print or digital subscription, and is one of the benefits of CBA membership. You can subscribe and become a member here.

How do I volunteer or get archaeology experience?

There are also a number of ways you can get involved by volunteering with the CBA, from helping protect historic buildings, to supporting your local CBA Group or Young Archaeologists’ Club. Find out more and discover opportunites near you here.

How do I identify a find?

If you would like to identify an archaeological find please go to the Portable Antiquities Scheme website and get in touch with your local finds officer.

Where can I find information about archaeology sites?

Please see the Archaeology Data Service (ADS) website to find out more about archaeological sites.

Where do I find more information about bones and fossils?

If you are interested in bones and fossils please visit the Natural History Museum website.

How do I update the address on my CBA membership/subscription?

Can the CBA help me prevent the loss or unsuitable development of built heritage in my area?
