This half-day course will provide an overview of Essex’s ancient, medieval and post medieval pottery. It will explore pottery sherds and finds to provide insight into archaeological pottery within the county, and explore a range of techniques for identification that will be useful to those who work with pottery in the field. It will also be of interest to those who wish to further their understanding of Essex’s pottery types. The course aims to enable students to understand how pottery was made and used in the past, to inform how we identify and interpret it today.

The talks will be given by Helen Walker and Andy Peachey.
