This project proposes systematic archaeological excavations at Low Hutton, focusing on an area that has produced large amounts of Iron Age, Roman and Medieval.

The excavation is area surround by large earth works which are currently of an unknown date. Previous surveys revealed pit-type features and substantial earthworks, and 2024 excavations uncovered pottery dating from the Iron Age, Roman, and Medieval periods.

The project aims to investigate the cultural, chronological, and environmental context of the site, contributing to a broader understanding of the village’s development from the Iron Age to the present.

A particular focus will be determining whether the earthworks are Viking in origin or from an earlier period.

The aim is to investigate the dating, construction, and formation of this feature and to recover artifacts that may clarify its function and period.

Camping and feeding options are available. There will be a site camp sit in operation which contains showers, kitchen, marquee, WI Fi, electricity and toilets
