Deborah Evans

Trustee and Chair of Conservation Committee, Gardens Trust

Deborah Evans MA, CMLI and IHBC, has worked as a historic landscape specialist for over 25 years as a surveyor, researcher, Head Gardener and Landscape Architect.  She has worked for Cadw, the National Museum of History in Wales, the National Trust, Historic England and in private practice.  Since 2015, Deborah has run her own consultancy, DE Landscape & Heritage Ltd. working nationally to provide expert advice and services at public and private sites.  Her work is often cross-disciplinary as illustrated by her role in leading the course, Managing Wildlife in the Historic Environment, at West Dean College as part of its prestigious Building Conservation Master Class.

In a voluntary capacity, Deborah is a Trustee of the Gardens Trust and Chair of its Conservation Committee.  She is also a member of the National Trust’s Specialist Advice Network having served on its Historic Environment Group between 2016-24.

Claudia Kenyatta

Director of Regions (job-share), Historic England

Alongside her job-share partner Emma Squire, Claudia oversees Historic England’s work across six regions, delivering expertise and advice, grants, and major programmes, and building the effective partnerships that help to explain, protect and care for the historic environment. Before joining Historic England in 2018, Claudia spent 15 years at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, specialising in culture and heritage policy, strategy and delivery, as well as a range of roles in the Cabinet Office and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Alongside her role at Historic England, Claudia is Chair of the Board of Trustees at Battersea Arts Centre in London.

Liz Power

Director, Historic Buildings and Places

Liz Power joined Historic Buildings & Places in February 2023. She has worked in Museum and heritage all of her professional life, most recently as the Director of the London Museum of Water & Steam in Brentford, West London, where she was responsible for 17 listed buildings. She understands well the challenges of working and caring for such important landmarks, as well as the challenges of working to make such buildings work in the face of the climate emergency.

When Liz is not working, she is proud to be the Chair of Young Lewisham Project, a grass roots young people’s charity, a trustee of AIM (Association of Independent Museums), an enthusiastic, if not very skilful, Baritone horn player in her local brass band, and slow runner. Liz lives in Lewisham with her husband and three children.

Neil Redfern

CBA Executive Director

Neil joined the CBA in 2020 after a distinguished career in heritage, most recently as Development Advice Team Leader and Principal Inspector of Ancient Monuments for Historic England. 

During his time at Historic England Neil led teams delivering award-winning development advice in Yorkshire, developed their response to major environmental threats as part of the National Heritage Protection Plan and initiated a major project on the Yorkshire Wolds to address monuments at risk from cultivation, amongst other achievements. 

Prior to this, Neil spent ten years with English Heritage as North Yorkshire Team Leader, Inspector of Ancient Monuments and Field Monument Warden. 

Between 1997 and 2000 he worked with the CBA as a Project Officer on its Defence of Britain project.
