The world-famous reenactment society the Ermine Street Guard are celebrating their 50th anniversary at Roman Vindolanda, Hadrian's Wall.
Their camp will be set and living history displays of how men, women and children would have lived on this northern outpost. Throughout the day you can see military training displays including archery and the famous Roman testudo.
There will also be the opportunity for children to get kitted up and join in a Roman soldier training school. Head to the Roman camp after training and see if you can be tempted to try anything on the lunch menu. This weekend is a great opportunity to see Vindolanda come back to life with the sights, sounds and smells of Roman times.
The event is included in the normal admission price to Vindolanda. Advance book is recommended as it is a very popular weekend.
