University Archaeology Day 2026 - the future of our past is in YOUR hands!

If so, then archaeology could be the degree for you! Come to the FREE University Archaeology Day at St Martins House Conference Centre in Leicester on Monday 26th October, 11am-4pm to find out about the opportunities an Archaeology degree can offer you. 

• Meet the experts - talk to lecturers and current students from archaeology departments across the UK, as well as heritage practitioners, professional bodies and employers. 

• Learn about the exciting research and opportunities available at universities across the UK. 

• Get application and career tips - everything you need to know about studying this exciting and incredibly broad subject, which combines arts, humanities and sciences to develop a mix of highly employable skills which can open doors to all kinds of careers.

Your booking confirmation from Ticketsource for #UAD26 will also give you significantly reduced entry all day at two major local heritage attractions: visit Jewry Wall (https://www.jewrywall.com/) and/or the Richard III Centre (https://kriii.com/) at a cost of only £7 each for prospective students AND those accompanying them (and those 15yrs and under go free!) when you show your #UAD26 ticketsource booking confirmation. We have also arranged exclusive #UAD26 talks and tours at both venues for attendees (see timetable below), though note you can attend either or both venues for the reduced rate at any time during their regular opening hours without joining the tour or talk if you prefer.  

Outline timetable for the day: 

• 10am. Optional exclusive #UAD26 Tour of Jewry Wall: https://www.jewrywall.com/ (NB admission payment as detailed above is required). Please indicate when booking your free UAD ticket if you wish to go on this tour (it may be possible to add a second tour later depending on demand). Note that you can still enter at any time during the day for the reduced rate by showing your #UAD26 booking confirmation even if you do not wish to go on the tour.  

• 11am-12pm: #UAD26 opens. Time to browse the stalls run by representatives of academic departments and archaeology/heritage institutions from across the UK. Come with all the questions you ever had about archaeology, where to study, how to apply and how to get the most out of your studies! 

• 12-1pm Archaeology careers panel/Q&A. Listen to professionals working across the sector, (as well as those who have used an archaeology degree as a springboard to go in different directions) discuss the breadth of the subject, highlight cutting-edge research and some of the latest finds and debates, and cover application tips, careers advice and more. 

• 1-2pm: lunch/time to browse #UAD26 and ask more questions. Lunch is not provided but there is a huge range of eateries and shops available in central Leicester very close by. 

• 2pm: optional exclusive #UAD26 talk and visit to the King Richard III Centre: https://kriii.com/ (NB admission payment as detailed above is required). Note that you can still enter at any time during the day for the reduced rate by showing your #UAD26 booking confirmation even if you do not wish to attend the talk.  

• 3-4pm: more time to browse the #UAD26 stalls and chat with representatives. 

• 4pm: #UAD26 ends.

  University Archaeology Day is designed for prospective undergraduate or graduate students, careers advisers, teachers and anyone with an interest in the subject. It is aimed mainly at students in years 12 and 13 and mature students considering studying archaeology and allied subjects at university, as well as at current HE students thinking about postgraduate options. However year 11 and even younger students may also find it helpful to plan ahead, and everyone is welcome! The day is organised by University Archaeology UK and the Council for British Archaeology.

Note that we require under 18s attending in person to be accompanied by a responsible adult, whose contact details should be supplied (separate, lower age limits for accompaniment are operated by Jewry Wall and the Richard III Centre). No contact details will be shared with third parties, and all names will be deleted immediately after the event. 

Accessibility: 

• St Martin's House Conference Centre is easily reached by public transport and by car. 

• The venue is fully accessible with step-free access to all conference spaces. Please contact the venue at hello@stmartinshouse.com for any specific queries requiring accessibility. 
  Jewry Wall is fully accessible for wheelchair users and also has a wheelchair available at reception upon request (https://www.jewrywall.com/visit/access-facilities/). Please book in advance and/or contact the team with any specific queries re accessibility at jewry.wall@leicester.gov.uk. On the day, volunteers will lead those who attend the 10am tour back to St Martin’s House by foot, a walk of about 15 minutes. 

• Richard III Centre: The exhibition, grave enclosure and White Boar Café have level pathways. There is a fire evacuation lift to access the exhibitions on the first floor, and some areas of the exhibition require the ability to navigate relatively tight angles and doorways. A wheelchair is available for visitors, please ask at reception or book in advance and/or contact the team with any specific queries re accessibility at email info@kriii.com. https://kriii.com/your-visit/accessibility/.  The venue is a ~2 minute walk from St Martin’s House. Volunteers will be available to guide those attending the 2pm talk there and back.
