Black Lives Matter and Museums in 2020: A Personal and Professional Perspective - Jeanette Plummer Sires

Jeannette Plummer Sires shares her perspective on museums and heritage in the time of Black Lives Matter, writing in American Anthropologist.

"I feel a deep sense of responsibility to write from my perspective on museums and heritage in the time of Black Lives Matter. The latest annual diversity data published by Arts Council England in May 2021 reports that museums have the lowest percentage (7 percent) of minority staff compared to the other cultural disciplines surveyed. With such heavily skewed demographics, voices like my own are scarce in this sector, so I feel compelled to write candidly about what the last twelve months have been like from my perspective as a woman of color in the heritage sector."
