Festival of Archaeology Youth Archaeology Activity Day, Tynemouth Priory and Castle
10:00 AM
Join us at the stunning seaside Tynemouth Priory and Castle for our free youth day!
The CBA is partnering with English Heritage and is offering a completely free day of hands-on fun. This is a call for anyone between the ages of 8 and 16 who wants the chance to explore archaeology and how we protect it through the exciting activities we have planned for the event.
You will have the chance to learn how to document gravestones, see conservation in action and discover the fascinating history of the site, from its Iron Age and Roman features, to a patchwork of re-use as a fortified medieval priory and a WWII gun battery.
Perfectly in line with the theme for this year’s Festival of Archaeology, ‘Archaeology and Nature’, you will also explore how conservation efforts are taking place to battle the natural effects of weather at Tynemouth and even try your hand at some of the techniques, such as stonemasonry!
We are offering all participants a £20 travel bursary and lunch will be provided on the day.
Please Note: the site is paid entry but all participants plus one accompanying adult with be given free access to the site for the day. Parents/carers are welcome to stay on site but please be aware that you will not be able to attend the session activities. All our staff are dbs checked and have safeguarding training.
