Join the friendly group from Green Hammerton Archaeology Society for a walking tour, and discover more about the archaeology of our parish, Green Hammerton. Learn about the prehistoric Iron Age settlement, the meeting place of two Roman roads, an amazing Roman burial and the emergence of the modern village from its medieval precursor. Hear from the society how they have combined information from drones, LIDAR, geophysics and archaeology before development, with field-walking to investigate the amazing archaeology beneath our feet.
The walking tour will begin outside Green Hammerton Village Social Club. It will last for approximately one hour, and will then be followed by a short session where we will show some of the finds made by the society in their work over the last year.
Most of the walk will be uncovered so bring a rain jacket and sturdy shoes.
The cost for the event is £5 with all money going towards further archaeological investigations in the parish.
If you have any accessibility needs, please let us know in advance and we will endeavour to take these into account.
