The Gardens Trust’s 2023 Historic Landscape Assemblies will focus on the theme of designation, to mark the 40th anniversary of the national Heritage Act and the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest.
This Conference Day will take a look back at the development and impact of the Register over the past 40 years, review its contribution today, and discuss its place in heritage conservation for the future.
Speakers are still being confirmed but include: Chris Blandford (Chair of the Gardens Trust Conservation Committee), Peter Goodchild (one of the original advocates for protection and a national register), David Jacques, (English Heritage’s first Inspector of Historic Parks and Gardens), Erika Diaz-Petersen, (Historic England Principal National Landscape Adviser), Jenifer White (previously Historic England Principal National Landscape Adviser), Deborah Evans (historic landscape consultant), William Hanham (historic property owner), Ben Cowell (Historic Houses).
