A possible Iron Age cremation burial from the Midlands and its context

A possible Iron Age cremation burial from the Midlands and its context

Cremation Burial C160, discovered near a Roman road in 2023, sheds light on mixed-use cemeteries and Iron Age burial practice at this time.

Dr Noël James is a student archaeologist, hoping to specialise in osteology, paleopathology and funerary practice. In 2023, under supervision, she undertook the micro-excavation of Cremation Burial C160/C161. This presentation is an explanation of that process, and offers possibilities for some of the interesting funeral rites in what might well be a Late-Iron Age mixed-use cemetery.
