In this session, Dr Anna Zwagerman will tell attendees all about three of the large water vessels in CPK Museums collection, The Carpow Logboat, Waka Taua* and Inuit Canoe. She will also speak about the care each one needs and the aim to display all three in the new museum.
*War canoes (waka taua) were the largest and most prestigious of Maori canoes. They were used to transport warriors, and Maori people viewed them as ‘tapu’ (sacred), which means that they could not be used to transport women or common goods such as food.
