In a change to Horncastle History and Heritage Society’s programme, the next talk will be by Dr Lisa Brundle on the Searching For Saxons project, to excavate a Saxon cemetery at Cammeringham near Lincoln. Wednesday 19th October, 7:45pm at Horncastle Community Centre.
The previously unknown cemetery was discovered by metal detectorists who found human bones alongside Saxon jewellery and weapons, which led to a rescue excavation to record it before it was lost to the plough. Some beautiful objects were found and the bones of the people buried there can tell us much about life in early medieval Lincolnshire.
Jean Saftoe's talk on Fulletby will instead be on 17th November.
