The Late Roman decorated casket from Fordham, Essex in its wider national context. Presented by Dr Stephen Greep.

Dr Stephen Greep, Independent Researcher, former Chair of the Roman Finds Group. and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (by election), will talk about the decorated bone mounts belonging to a late Roman casket, and putting the casket in its wider context. The pieces of bone were discovered by Colchester Archaeological Group during their ongoing excavations at Fordham, Essex. What might the casket have looked like? Do these decorations have any meaning? How rare are these examples of mounts? Dr Greep has published a number of papers on worked bone, antler and ivory objects in academic journals and archaeological reports.
