Dr Stuart Eve
Stu joined Wessex Archaeology as Chief Executive in 2024. He has more than 24 years of experience developing archaeological and heritage practices in the UK and internationally. He is responsible for shaping Wessex’s vision, strengthening existing partnerships and forming new ones, as well as building advocacy across the heritage sector and beyond.
He previously co-founded L – P : Archaeology in 2000 and led the thriving company of 100+ employees for more than 20 years, before successfully transferring the business to MOLA in 2022.
As Director of Research and Innovation at MOLA, he led the organisation’s creative output as well as the strategic development of a range of key areas, including research and engagement, digital solutions, and financial and business intelligence systems.
In addition to his commercial experience, his specialist area of expertise is digital applications for archaeology. He has published extensively on the use of augmented and virtual reality within archaeological practice and heritage engagement. His wider research portfolio and field experience include projects in the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site, Ukraine, the Falkland Islands and the Battlefield of Waterloo, as well as leading the first ever archaeological excavation of a Gypsy Romany site in the UK. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton and a Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University.
