Volunteering at Avalon Archaeology

Avalon Archaeology, part of the South West Heritage Trust, offers a range of volunteering opportunities for individuals interested in archaeology, heritage interpretation, and public engagement.

Current roles include:

  • Welcome Volunteers
Support public open days by greeting visitors, assisting with activities, and helping to create a welcoming environment. Opportunities are typically available on Sundays, with occasional sessions on other days by arrangement.

  • Living History Volunteers
Participate in public events by portraying historical characters using replica artefacts and period clothing. Volunteers help bring reconstructed archaeological settings to life.

  • Hands-on Heritage Volunteers (currently unavailable)
Engage in practical projects such as building reconstructions and site maintenance. These sessions usually take place on Wednesdays.

Volunteers must be 18 or over. The application process includes submitting a form, attending an informal meeting, providing references, and completing training.
