Archaeology on the Border – Excavations at Smallhythe Place in Kent

Join us in the Barn Theatre for an evening lecture to explore the results of the 2021 archaeological excavations in the Garden, Elfwick and Forstal Fields. Perhaps best known today as the former home of Victorian actress Ellen Terry and her daughter Edy Craig, during the medieval period, Smallhythe was a location for royal shipbuilding and it was also a hive of activity some 2,000 years ago. This talk by National Trust Archaeologist Nathalie Cohen and maritime expert Eliott Wragg will discuss last years exciting excavations at Smallhythe and throw light on what this years dig in August hopes to uncover.
