Big Bronze Age Boat Build - The Launch

11:00 AM

Join us at Stanwick Lakes for the launch of our Big Bronze Age Boat Build boats!

Volunteers have been working with Dr James Dilley from Ancient Craft to craft three replica Bronze Age log boats, using only replica Bronze Age Tools and traditional techniques. The boat build weekends have been well visited by the public, who have been able to see the teams in action throughout.

This National Lottery Heritage Fund funded project began in 2023, a project to explore ancient settler's use of the waterways in the Nene Valley and to get hands on with history.

On the 21st July 2024, the boats will be launched onto the water, an exciting opportunity to see history really come to life and to learn more about the Bronze Age.

  • Watch a bronze casting session with Dr James Dilley from Ancient Craft, as he creates a bronze offering before the launch
  • Meet archaeologists from the nationally significant Bronze Age site Must Farm - "Britain's Pompeii"
  • Children's Craft activities throughout the day

Stanwick Lakes is a 750-acre countryside attraction and nature reserve, and a site of national significance for its diverse heritage.
