Bring your finds to Blaise

11:00 AM

Bring your finds to Blaise for a drop-in session with our friendly Finds Liaison Officer.

Found something interesting while walking, gardening or metal detecting and want to know more about it?

Then bring your finds to Blaise Museum and Kurt, our Finds Liaison Officer, will take a look. Kurt can help identify objects made by people in the past and will share information on how they were used or made. Interesting finds may also be recorded on the national Portable Antiquities Scheme database.

Recording finds with the Portable Antiquities Service (PAS)

The Portable Antiquities Service (PAS) is a national scheme that records archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales. Artefacts that are more than 300 years old are added to a national database. These records help advance our knowledge of history and archaeology and are available for students, researchers and members of the public to study.

In order to record your finds, we will need to know where you found the object (we can help you identify a grid reference). Sometimes we may also need to hold onto your finds for a short time. If this happens, you will get a receipt for your finds and be notified when they are ready for collection.

Treasure

Certain objects qualify as Treasure under the 1996 Treasure Act and must be reported. If you find:

an object that is more than 10% gold or silver that is more than 300 years old

two or more precious metal coins or 10 or more base metal coins from the same find spot

two or more items of prehistoric metal work from the same find spot

any finds associated with the above

Then you must be report it. Your Finds Liaison Officer can do this for you and guide you through the process.

Please note we are not able to value your objects. Metal detecting is not permitted on the Blaise Estate and is illegal on the site of scheduled ancient monuments.
