Join us for finds displays, demonstrations and children's activities relating to a recent community excavation that uncovered the historic core of Weymouth.
Weymouth Old Town Hall will be the setting to showcase the results of a three-month excavation carried out in late 2023 over the former High Street, from its 13th century origins to its demolition in the 1960s. Displays will include:
- Finds from the medieval to modern periods
- Volunteers in costume
- 'stir the pottage' cooking presentation
- Kids activities including 'lucky dip finds' and 'dressing-up costumes'
- Rolling slideshows
- Ask the experts
A separate event on the ground floor of the Old Town Hall on the 19th of July between 10:30am and 2pm will continue an Oral History project that has been running to record memories of the former High Street before it was demolished. The finds exhibition will be open for a preview on this day from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
