On the ground

Gower: connections, story, landscape.

10:00 AM

Join Gower Unearthed CIC with Gower Heritage Centre and Dr James January-Mcann,  for a day that celebrates our sense of place and the stories of Gower. Join us for the day, or part of the day,  exploring the connections between place names and the historic landscape. Our day will involve lots of opportunities to get outside and get close to nature.

Our feature event is a talk from special guest, Dr James January-Mcann who is, travelling to Gower from Aberystwyth on behalf of RCAHMW.

We will also run a guided walk and workshops including: story telling, ancient crafts and magical map making,  there is something for everyone! We will be Delving into the myths and legends of Gower and discovering what they tell us about our Celtic ancestors in the Iron Age too.

Importantly we will learn how place names describe a landscape rich with the narratives of the past. We need to protect the place names that describe the past for the future wellbeing of the community-we can all be a part of saving our heritage.

We will also run a guided walk into the ritual landscape known locally as Green Cwm and we will discover the fascinating place  name ‘Church Hill’ and discuss the meaning of this enigmatic place name and what it might tell us about the people who inhabited the valley and surrounding area before us!
