Major new maritime archaeology discoveries in the Solent region, near the Isle of Wight - a talk by Graham Scott
1:00 PM
Join Graham Scott, Senior Marine Archaeologist and Dive Superintendent, Wessex Archaeology for this online talk:
Two new historic shipwrecks have been found by local divers in the Solent region. One is probably the wreck of an armed merchant ship from the first half of the 16th century carrying a lead cargo. The other wreck is a ship of the 17th or 18th century carrying cannons made in the 17th century in the Spanish and Dutch Low Countries. Graham Scott of Wessex Archaeology will talk about the collaboration between those local divers and professional archaeologists that has led to these wrecks being recognised as being nationally important discoveries and legally protected in July of this year.
