Step back in time for a drop-in archaeological skills activity to search for finds from the excavated camp at Lunt Meadows.
The discovery of the Middle Stone Age settlements at Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve in 2012 has given us a glimpse into the lives of our Mesolithic, hunter-gatherer ancestors.
Step back in time for a drop-in archaeological skills activity and help us to pan our Stone Age soil samples from the excavated camp at Lunt Meadows. Under the expert guidance of Curator of Prehistoric Archaeology at the Museum of Liverpool and our volunteers, you can find small stone tools and burnt material that has lain undiscovered in this soil for over 9000 years.
Anyone is welcome to drop by and be involved in the collection of the evidence of the earliest-known residents of our region, and LWT staff and volunteers will also be on hand to chat, answer questions and show you replica items from the Mesolithic period.
The team will be on site from 10am to 3.30pm in the dig site (sign-posted from the car park and marked on our site map) and people can drop-in at any point in the day. This is a great opportunity to learn about the digging process in the context of a dig that has been going on many years and is coming towards its end. We do please ask that people book a ticket if they are intending to come along, to give us an idea of numbers to expect throughout the day.
