Pig rearing in Jersey and the sties they lived in – Hamptonne – Archaeology Festival Event
10:15 AM
For several years Jane Aubin, with the assistance of other Société members, have been researching pigsties on old Jersey farms. What may be considered a humble outbuilding amongst far more impressive other farm buildings, pigsties provided accommodation and an environment for pigs, a very valuable asset to farmers, allowing farmers to produce meat in an efficient and economical way.
These buildings have mainly been ignored in written works on old farmhouses and buildings, and Jane will explain why they deserve more attention by guiding us around the ones at Hamptonne.
