At The Weir Garden we have completed planting to restore over 65 hectares into priority habitat for wildlife. Before this planting started we worked closely with archaeologists and carried out a Geophysical survey to ensure nature can thrive in a symbiotic way with the historic environment. These surveys informed how and where we would plant, but also showed us there's more to discover about The Weir Garden's fascinating history.
So, get ready for an archaeological adventure during the Festival of Archaeology. Watch as archaeologists and volunteers dig deep to uncover the secrets of a site of possible Roman origins. This excavation builds on discoveries made at The Weir by ITV’s Time Team in 2005 and a subsequent dig in 2014.
Join us from Friday 18 July-Sunday 27 July 2025 between 10.30am-4.30pm as we uncover what lies beneath the ground, visit the finds tent to look at artefacts and learn fascinating details about the site. You'll be surrounded by newly created nature habitats in a stunning corner of Herefordshire.
Mark your calendars for the weekend of 26 and 27 July as Hereford Museum on the Move will be rolling in to showcase Herefordshire’s rich Roman history. Enjoy a weekend packed with exciting archaeological activities and celebrations.
