What is Archaeology, and why does it matter? Creating a Future for the Past by engaging young people in Archaeology
What is archaeology, and why does it really matter? It’s a question I often ask young people when trying to get them hooked on the past, and one that many of us struggle to answer clearly. In this talk, I try to answer this question, drawing on my experience of engaging thousands of young people using the three words: Things, People, Past.
I hope to explore how enthusiasm, real archaeology, and collaboration can create sustainable youth engagement. Whilst reflecting on why archaeology matters today, not as a route to future careers, but as a powerful way to develop curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy.
