Volunteering with Surrey County Archaeological Unit

Join digs, process finds, or gain experience through student placements.

Surrey County Archaeological Unit offers volunteering opportunities in both fieldwork and post-excavation work:

  • Fieldwork: Summer community projects include excavations, surveys, and field walking. No experience needed—training is provided.
  • Wednesday Sessions: Year-round volunteering at Surrey History Centre in Woking, focused on processing finds and samples. Runs 11am–4pm; booking required.
  • Work Experience: Limited placements for students in Year 11, sixth form, and college. The 2023 programme is full; career resources are available online.
