Come and find out about the archaeology of the beautiful Grosvenor Park, Chester and see what happens to the artefacts we find. West Cheshire Museums in partnership with the University of Chester have been running an annual training excavation for students that aims to examine this historic area adjacent to Chester Amphitheatre. Our discoveries have included a Roman road, a large Saxon defensive ditch and the remains of a large building destroyed during the English Civil War; the building was once the Chester home of Sir Hugh Cholmondeley and his family.
Archaeologists will be available to answer questions, there will be a display of finds and we will be processing finds. Free drop-in event. Booking is not necessary. The excavation trench is not open to view.

The pavilion is situated in the Activity Zone on the northern side of Grosvenor Park (parallel to the A5268 between its junctions with Bath St and Love St). The Pavilion is fully accessible by wheelchair and can be reached either from the main park gates on Grosvenor Park Road or
the gate opposite the City Baths on Union Street. Grosvenor Park is c. 20 minutes walk from Chester railway station and there are bus stops nearby.
