On the ground

Beyond the Gold: Catillon II and other excavations

Multiple dates and times available

On Friday 24th July - Explore nature beyond the Catillon II Hoard from excavations, with museum conservator Neil Mahrer (Jersey Heritage).

Discover how traces of the natural world survive within archaeological deposits, from plant remains to insects and other “ecofacts”. Learn how such fragile evidence is recovered, recorded and interpreted, and why it is often rarer than artefacts made by humans.

Material from Le Câtillon II Hoard and other excavations revealed unexpected insights into past environments. This event will explain what an “ecofact” is and how nature helps us reconstruct the ancient history of Jersey.
