CONFLICT ARCHAEOLOGY IN THE LANDSCAPE – ST OUEN’S BAY

Guided walk exploring St Ouen’s Bay conflict archaeology, from historic to WW2 remains, led by Marc Yates (Société Jersiaise).

St. Ouen’s Bay is known for surfing and miles of yellow sand. However, behind the beach is a landscape full of archaeology dating back more than 6000 years as well as remains of more recent conflict archaeology shaped by war, hidden amongst nature, but nonetheless in plain sight.

We will explore what constitutes conflict archaeology by looking at examples from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as more recent WW2 remains from Nazi Germany’s occupation of the Channel Islands, during a short walk of about 1.5 miles
