CRAG Bryneglwys Excavation 2026

Join the Clwydian Range Archaeology Group (CRAG) for its sixth year of fieldwork on a prehistoric site near Bryneglwys in the beautiful Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape. No previous experience is necessary to participate in our programme of professionally supervised geophysical surveying and excavation between 20th July and 15th August 2026 (excluding Sundays). All necessary tools and training will be provided. Come for just a few days, or the whole four weeks! 

Previous seasons at the site have uncovered an Early Bronze Age ring cairn with a rich assemblage of cremation deposits and artefacts. Finds have also included Mesolithic and Neolithic stone tools, inscribed pebbles, and cupmarked stones. CRAG’s current project, Hanes Mewn Harddwch (History in Beauty), aims to link the cultural and natural heritages of the site by telling the story of how prehistoric communities viewed and shaped their environments.

Hanes Mewn Harddwch is made possible by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players. To participate in the fieldwork, you must be at least 18 years old and become a member of CRAG. Annual membership is £20 for new members, £40 in subsequent years, and free for full-time students. There are no other charges, but you will need to provide your own food and accommodation.
