Digging for Lincolnshire: Axholme's Place Names - part of the Living History Fesival

4:00 PM

Discover Axholme’s place-names - linking language, history, archaeology and landscape. In this talk Dr Kathryn Bullen will share some of her PhD research into the place-names of the Isle of Axholme. Place-names are presented as dynamic linguistic artefacts, set against a background of historical, archaeological and topographical evidence. Find out about the importance of collecting early spellings, place-names as ‘linguistic fossils’, and the journey of scholarly interpretation!
