Visiting the Tithe Barn in Landbeach can feel a bit like stepping into the past as you look out the doors and see the cows across the meadow. This historic village lay along a once vital road for the Roman Empire that connected Ely to London, and the story written in the land around the Barn is one of long human inhabitance.
Join us on Saturday 18 July to take a self guided tour of the Barn, visit our nature meditation station, and talk with our knowledgable volunteers about the amazing medieval barn. Share you story of the Barn and village at our oral history booth, or learn about volunteering with the Trust. The Barn will be open all day from 9 am to 4 pm, so come explore the site and enjoy our full day of programming!
Outdoor Maintenance Volunteer Orientation at 9:30 am
Join us for a fun session to learn about our efforts to care for a historically authentic landscape around the Barn. We rely on our Outdoor Maintenance team to cultivate native plants that support pollinators, as well as keeping the site as accessible as possible. No experience is necessary, just bring your love of nature and an interest in gardening.
Tithe Barns of the UK with Joseph Rogers at 12:00 pm
Join us for a great talk with Joseph Rogers, author of Tithe Barns. He visited his first tithe barn in 2014 and in 2019 spent the year exploring over 100 barns across the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland, Wales, Kent and everywhere in between. Learn about the history of these buildings from the medieval period through to modern day, the confusion and misconceptions associated with the term ‘tithe barn’ and a discussion of tithe barns in the Cambridgeshire area.
