Step into the past and explore the landscapes of Stanwick Lakes, where archaeology and nature come together.
Watch skilled volunteers and heritage specialists as they take on ambitious hands-on projects inspired by the rich Roman history of the Nene Valley. At the heart of the action, a full-scale replica Roman pottery kiln is rising from the ground using traditional materials and techniques, revealing how this landscape thrived as a centre of ceramic production nearly 2,000 years ago.
In the Weaver’s Barn, step through our open doors and discover the artistry of ancient textiles. From spinning and natural dyeing to weaving on traditional looms, explore how fibres were transformed into everyday essentials in the Roman world. Our team will be demonstrating techniques, sharing knowledge, and revealing these often-overlooked crafts in action.
Across the site, a Roman-inspired garden is taking shape, showcasing plants that would have been grown for food, medicine and craft—offering a window into daily life in Roman Britain.
The Big Bronze Age Boat Build also returns! As part of this ambitious project, volunteers will be designing and constructing a timber jetty using Bronze Age techniques—helping to protect the boats while continuing an extraordinary journey into prehistoric engineering.
Whether you're fascinated by archaeology, traditional crafts, or simply want a great day out, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
