Jarrow Hall Festival of Archaeology 2026

Join us this Summer for our Jarrow Hall Festival of Archaeology 2026 Sat 18th July – Sun 2nd August. Enjoy our crafts, activities and events. Our opening hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 10 AM - 4 PM.


Come to our object handling sessions every Wednesday from 11 AM to 1 PM throughout the festival and hold objects that are up to 1000 years old. Young people are also encouraged to join in on our Young Curators sessions every Thursday 11 AM to 1 PM throughout the festival and help us create labels for our objects.

Visit our Jarrow Archaeological Mission (JAM) in Drewett's Park next to our site to find out what our team of archaeologists and volunteers have been getting up to. 

Head into our reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village, where on Sunday the 19th of July and Saturday the 1st of August you can see living history group Regia Anglorum who will be bringing the Anglo-Saxon period to life. On the 1st of August, living history group Historia Normanis will also e demonstrating some Norman living history.

Join our guided tour on the 1st of August, discussing the influences of the Anglo-Saxons on Tolkien and his work.

Visit our new exhibition, Here Be Dragons: Anglo-Saxon Influence on Fantasy, to learn about the influence of Anglo-Saxon culture and literature on Western fantasy.

Keep an eye out for other archaeology and history themed events, including Young Archaeologists' Club workshops (dates TBC) which will be bookable online.

Tickets are non-refundable as they are valid for 12 months from purchase.

During term time weekdays, school groups may have exclusive access to Thirlings Hall (the largest recreated building). For access to Thirlings Hall, we recommend coming in the afternoon.
