Memories from the Shoreline - Talk with Trevor and Vera Gibbons

Join Trevor and Vera Gibbons as they share first-hand memories of their excavations at Gore End Creek and Minnis Bay, and their work alongside Antoinette “Tony” Powell-Cotton between 1965 and 1975.

This fascinating talk will explore how their pioneering fieldwork contributed to some of Thanet’s most important archaeological discoveries and how their recent research has helped re-evaluate collections held at the Powell-Cotton Museum.

The remarkable finds from Minnis Bay reveal evidence of life stretching from the Bronze Age through to the 20th century, providing a unique insight into the people who lived and worked along this ever-changing coastline. These discoveries also played a significant role in the development of inter-tidal archaeology, helping archaeologists better understand the rich history preserved beneath our shores.
