Film (in French) and discussion exploring stone tool-making, from New Guinea adze traditions to Jersey’s Neolithic Pinnacle finds.
This event explores the production of stone tools across cultures and time. It will begin with a short French documentary film produced in 1991 by Pierre Pétrequin and Anne-Marie Pétrequin examining traditional adze-making techniques in New Guinea, where skilled craftsmen continue to shape stone using methods that echo deep prehistory.
The screening is followed by a discussion comparing these techniques with Neolithic lithic production at The Pinnacle site in Jersey. Original tools from the excavation will be displayed, offering a rare opportunity for close observation. Together, the film and artefacts provide insight into technology, skill, and cultural convergence in stone tool production.
