Relaxed Session at Kilmartin Museum

10:00 AM

Kilmartin Museum offers you the chance to journey back through 12,000 years, bringing our ancestors’ stories to life in bold and captivating ways.

Located at the heart of an internationally important landscape on the west coast of Scotland, Kilmartin Museum cares for and displays fascinating ancient artefacts close to the sites where they were discovered. Among our treasures are some of Scotland’s earliest examples of Beaker pottery, incredible quartz tools used to make mysterious prehistoric rock art, and stunningly crafted early metalwork.

Our relaxed sessions take place on the third Saturday of every month, offering a calmer environment for visitors who prefer to explore without the usual levels of noise and activity.

These session are particularly suited to visitors who prefer a quieter, less busy environment, including (but not limited to) children, their families and carers, neurodivergent visitors, visitors with sensory sensitivities and anyone who would benefit from a calmer visit.

Please note that the museum will be closed to the general public for this duration and at 11.00 sound will be switched back on but visitors to this session are welcome to remain in the museum as long as they like.

What to expect:

During relaxed sessions, we introduce changes throughout the museum to ensure a calmer and more comfortable experience including:

More consistent lighting (lowered in some areas, increased in others)

Interactives and audio will be turned down or off to create a quieter experience.
